On August 28th, the Kraft-TSN Celebration Tour made a stop in King Edward Park, in Brighton. The day featured a free community barbeque, activities for people of all ages, a live TSN broadcast and an autograph session. Special guests included the Toronto Argonauts, the Belleville Bulls, the Brighton Legion Highlanders Pipe Band and our own emcee from myFM, Jamie Cybulski.
Special thanks to the Peter Czulo and Ellie Guenette, who submitted the nomination that brought TSN and Kraft to Brighton. Thanks to Ellie, who spent hours of her summertime chairing the local organizing committee for this event.
Local businesses made generous contributions to the Celebration Tour. Mike and Lori's No Frills donated supplies for the family fun zone and food for the barbeque. Brighton Springs donated 1000 bottles of water, complete with designer labels. The Quicks donated the ice that kept the drinks cool on that hot, sunny day. Other organizations that supported the tour included: Rona (Trenton), The Brighton Independent, Mrs. B's Country Candy, Phillips' Farm Supplies, Dunnetts' Orchard, Brighton Tennis Club, Brighton Dragon Boat Club, Loyalist Coffee, Cole's Tim-Br Mart, Sprenkels, the Ontario Provincial Police, Brighton Speedway, and the Municipality of Brighton.
Mostly, thanks to the people of Brighton who came to the festivities and enjoyed a day filled with community spirit. Many of you went online in July to vote to bring Kraft and TSN to town; others volunteered to assist in the smooth running of the Celebration Tour. Thank you for your continued support in the quest to build an ENSS-community track and sports field.
Sure was fun!
The "quest" is a collaboration between the Municipality of Brighton and the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board that aims to build a state-of-the-art athletic facility at East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS).
Facilities will benefit both the community and the school.
The organizational committee for the "quest" has set a fundraising goal of $850,000. |
